Alternative Coronado Bike Ride

A little flatter, closer to the coast so a little cooler too.

Description:
Still starts on the Silver Strand but follows the Bayshore Bikeway north to San Diego Bay in Seaport Village. Out and back ride.

Directions:
1. Miles 0-4: Turn right out of Glorietta Bay Park for warm-up lap around Coronado.
2. Continue straight/right on Rte 75/Orange Ave.
3. Left on 1st street (mile 2; Orange dead-ends onto 1st at Centennial Park).
4. Left on Alameda Blvd (mile 2.5; turn before military base)
5. Left on Ocean (mile 4; Alameda dead-ends onto Ocean).
6. Right on Rte 75/Orange Ave/Silver Strand (mile 4.5; Ocean becomes Dana Place and spills onto 75).
7. Continue on bike path along side Silver Strand Blvd. (miles 5-12). Enjoy the tailwind (it'll be a headwind coming back)!
Continue south on a separated bike path, passing the Naval Amphibious Base.
Follow the bike path along the south and west sides of San Diego Bay. Cross Coronado Cays Blvd. and continue south on a separated bike path.
8. Stay on bike path as you head east through Imperial Beach (miles 12-13). You will veer left and join up with Boulevard Ave. as Silver Strand Blvd. goes straight.
9. Turn right on 13th street (mile 12.5). You will pass a lagoon on your left.
10. Turn left (east) on Palm Ave (mile 13).
11. Turn left on 19th street and continue as it becomes Saturn Blvd (mile 14).
12. Saturn Blvd. ends and becomes a bike path. Continue.
13. Exit bike path on Main St. Turn left on Frontage Rd.
14. Left on Bay Blvd. (can also turn left on Anita Rd., then right on Bay Blvd.) At the end of the path, continue roughly straight ahead on Bay Blvd. 15. Turn left on J St (mile 16.5).
16. Curve to the right as it becomes Marina Pkway.
17. Turn left on Sandpiper Way.
18. Turn right on G Street.
19. Turn left on a different segment of Marina Parkway.
20. Turn right onto F St. (mile 18) which becomes Lagoon Dr.
21. Turn left on Bay Blvd. Continue on bike path running parallel to I-5.
22. Cross over Sweetwater River on bike path. Turn left on north bank and continue on bike path.
23. Bike path ends where 32nd St. turns right and becomes Marina Way. Continue straight on 32nd St (mile 20).
24. Turn right on Tidelands Ave. (by Pepper Park).
25. Tidelands Ave. becomes Civic Centre Dr. (mile 21).
26. Civic Centre Dr. curves sharply to right. Afterwards, make left on Harbor Dr. (careful at intersection) before crossing over I-5.
27. Continue on Harbor Drive under Coronado Bridge to Seaport Village.
28. Left on Kettner (just after Market). Stop at shop or gas station for rest break. (mile 26).
29. Left at end of Kettner around boat harbor.
30. Left on Marina Park Way (becomes Harbor St., which becomes Convention Way).
31. Convention Way curves to the left and becomes 8th Ave.
32. Right on E. Harbor Dr (mile 27).
33. Return the way you came.
34. Continue along Harbor Drive until intersects Civic Centre Dr. (Harbor becomes Cleveland after this intersection).
35. Sharp Right on Civic Centre Dr. (mile 30.6; before I-5). Curves to left. Becomes Tidelands Ave.
36. Left onto 32nd St. before Pepper Park.
37. Enter bike path at end of 32nd St. (before it curves to left and becomes Marina Way/Harrison).
38. Soon after crossing the railroad spur, turn left through a break in the retaining wall into the approach to the Gordy Shields Bridge over the Sweetwater River. This turn is poorly marked. Don't miss it! If you pass under Interstate Highway 5, you've gone too far. Cross the bridge and continue south on a bike path next to Interstate 5.
39. Continue on bike path parallel to I-5.
40. Continue straight as bike path ends onto Bay Blvd.
41. Right on Lagoon Dr., which becomes F St.
42. Left on Marina Pkwy.
43. Right on G St.
44. Left on Sandpiper Wy.
45. Right on Marina Pkway/Tidelands Ave.
46. Continue as Tidelands curves to the left and becomes J St.
47. Right on Bay Blvd./bike path.
48. Turn right onto Frontage Road.
49. At the intersection of Main Street, enter a separated bike path at the southwest corner. Follow it through an undeveloped (formerly agricultural) area until it joins Saturn Boulevard. Then follow Saturn Boulevard south.
50. Leave the bike path and continue straight ahead on Saturn Blvd.
51. Turn right onto Palm Avenue.
52. After passing a lagoon on your right, turn right onto 13th Street.
53. Enter the separated bike path at the end of 13th Street.
54. Follow the bike path along the south and west sides of San Diego Bay. 55. Cross Coronado Cays Blvd. and continue north on a separated bike path.
56. Almost across the street from the famous Hotel del Coronado, the bike path veers to the right to follow Pomona Avenue and Glorietta Boulevard eastward.
57. The separated bike path ends near some tennis courts. Keep right and follow Glorietta Boulevard, which runs along the north side of the Coronado Golf Course.
58. At the intersection with Fifth Street, turn right onto a separated bike path and follow it under the Coronado Bridge.
59. On the other side of the bridge, the path splits. Keep right. (The left branch is a drainage channel.) Enter Tidelands Park. Follow the paved bike path through Tidelands Park. Stay close to the bay.
60. Turn around and return to Glorietta Bay Park.
