This route heads North towards Del Dios. One of the alternate routes (short) goes thru San Dieguito Rd. Longer route continues to the Del Dios climb. The ride includes Highland Valley Rd. but that is optional. That section is difficult (ie. lots of steep climbs) and adds about 20 miles to the entire route.
