For riders interested in getting in a 50-mile training ride after the Club race this Saturday, 8/18/07. We leave after the race--late start--11:00 a.m.

Description:
Start with 5 mile warm-up loop around Coronado out of Glorietta Bay before heading down the Silver Strand. Head east out of Imperial Beach on Palm Ave to Chula Vista through Otay Valley Regional Park and out to the Olympic Tranining Center by the Lower Otay Reservoir. Head north and hook up with Otay Lakes Rd and head west. Continue west on Bonita Rd and hook up with the bike path to head west along the Sweetwater River. By the Sweetwater Marsh, continue following the bike path south, running parallel to I-5. Follow the bike path back to Palm Ave. in IB, turn west and hook back up with the Silver Strand. Fight the headwind for the final 8 miles back to the start.
Terrain: mostly flat with some rollers inland from miles 14-23.
Optional 20 minute run afterwards.
Directions:
1. Miles 0-4: Turn right out of Glorietta Bay Park for warm-up lap around Coronado.
2. Continue straight/right on Rte 75/Orange Ave.
3. Left on 1st street (mile 2; Orange dead-ends onto 1st at Centennial Park).
4. Left on Alameda Blvd (mile 2.5; turn before military base)
5. Left on Ocean (mile 4; Alameda dead-ends onto Ocean).
6. Right on Rte 75/Orange Ave/Silver Strand (mile 4.5; Ocean becomes Dana Place and spills onto 75).
7. Continue on bike path along side Silver Strand Blvd. (miles 5-12). Enjoy the tailwind (it'll be a headwind coming back)!
8. Stay on bike path as you head east through Imperial Beach (miles 12-13). You will veer left and join up with Boulevard Ave. as Silver Strand Blvd. goes straight.
9. Turn right on 13th street (mile 12.5).
10. Turn left (east) on Palm Ave (mile 13).
11. Turn left onto 805 north on-ramp (mile 17) and take the 805 1 exit north to Main St.
12. Turn right on Main St. and head east (mile 18).
13. Turn left (2nd intersection) on Brandywine Ave. and continue north.
14. Turn right and head east on Olympic Parkway (mile 19; to the left, Olympic Pkwy is called E. Orange Ave.)
15. Continue east next 6 miles on Olympic Pkway to the Olympic Training Center (rolling hills).
16. Turn left (head north) past Olympic Training Center by Lower Otay Reservoir onto Wueste Rd (mile 25.3).
17. Turn left (head west) on Otay Lakes Rd (mile 26). More rolling hills.
18. Continue on Otay Lakes Rd. by turning right (mile 29.5). DO NOT stay straight onto Telegraph Rd.
19. Turn left on Bonita Rd. (Hwy S17) and head west (mile 33; where Otay Lakes Rd. ends). The Chula Vista Golf Course will be directly ahead before turning (to the north).
**Stop and regroup here at the Mini Mart.**
20. Turn right on Plaza Bonita Rd. (mile 34.5) before crossing the 805.
21. Turn left onto the bike path at the northwest corner of the Plaza Bonita shopping center (mile 35.5). (If you curve to the right and hit Sweetwater Rd., you've missed it).
22. Follow the bike path west, which runs parallel to Hwy 54 and is on the north side of the Sweetwater River.
23. Turn left to continue on the bike path across the Sweetwater River to its south side, just under I-5 (mile 38).
24. Continue following the bike path south (parallel to I-5).
25. Continue south on Bay Blvd., where the bike path merges after E St (mile 38.5).
26. Turn left to stay on Bay Blvd. (straight becomes Saturn) (mile 41.5).
27. Left turn on Anita St. (Bay Blvd. dead-ends onto Anita).
28. Immediate right onto Frontage Rd.
29. Enter bike path to right at next intersection, which is Main St. (mile 42).
30. Continue on bike path as it becomes Saturn Blvd.
31. Turn right on Palm Ave. and head west through IB (mile 43).
32. Turn right on 13th St. and head north.
33. Turn left at end of 13th St. onto bike path (mile 43.5).
34. Continue on bike path to the right at the end of Boulevard Ave (mile 45).
35. Take Silver Strand bike path north back to the start, Glorietta Bay in Coronado (final 6 miles). Expect to fight a headwind!
